Star Vijay, commonly known as Vijay TV or simply Vijay, is an Indian Tamil language general entertainment private broadcast television network that is owned by the Star India, a subsidiary of American multinational mass media corporation The Walt Disney Company.

Star Vijay commonly known as Vijay TV, is an Indian pay television channel that is owned by the Star India,[1] a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company India.[2] The channel broadcasts from Kochar Jade, Guindy, Chennai.[3] Their programs consists of family dramas, comedy series, reality shows, crime-based programmes and movies.

Star Vijay launched its own high-definition feed, Star Vijay HD, on 29 May 2016.[4]

History[edit]

The channel was first launched by N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar on 24 November 1994, as Golden Eagle Communication. United Breweries Group acquired the channel in 1995 and renamed as Vijay TV.[5] The UTV Group bought the controlling interest from United Breweries Group in 1998. In 2001, Star India took over the channel and rebranded it as Star Vijay. It became the first Tamil channel to air English-language films dubbed in Tamil.[6]

On 24 November 2016, its siblings channel Star Vijay Super was launched, which airs non-stop films and legacy television shows.

Programming[edit]

Star Vijay has programming which appeals to all audiences irrespective of their age groups or demography. The channel is well accepted as the complete family entertainer with game shows, reality show, comedy, spiritual shows, cookery, talk shows, musical shows, drama, films, and events.

Some of its shows, such as Seedhaiyin Raaman, Mahabharatham, En Kanavan En Thozhan, and Idhu Kadhala are Hindi-language productions dubbed into Tamil.
